A launch and recovery system (LARS) is the deck-mounted equipment used to deploy and recover an underwater vehicle from a vessel in a controlled manner. It manages the lift line, umbilical, or tether as the vehicle transitions between deck and water, maintaining a stable, repeatable sequence through the launch and recovery cycle. Unique Group’s Subsea Innovation range spans five systems, all rated to a safe working load of 15 tonnes, differing in mounting arrangement and outreach rather than capacity. XT-90 — Skid-mounted base system, 4.3-metre outreach, for ROVs with tether management systems, trenchers, subsea vehicles, and gliders.
XW-90 — Wider skid base than the XT-90, allowing larger packages to be deployed through the legs. 4.3-metre outreach.
XWM-90 — Cranked boom giving greater outreach than the XW-90, at 5.2 metres.
FSM-90 — Mounted to fabricated stools welded to the vessel rather than a skid base. 4.4-metre outreach.
HFM-135 — Dipping frame design with greater outreach than the XT and XW systems, bringing the vehicle closer to the splash zone to reduce swing before docking.
