Controlled mass flow excavation (CMFE), also known as mass flow excavation (MFE) or controlled flow excavation (CFE), uses a high-volume, low-pressure water flow to suspend and relocate seabed sediment without any physical contact with the seabed or the assets on it. Because the sediment is displaced rather than lifted, there is no spoil to dispose of. Unique Group’s Uni-FlowX system works across a wide range of substrates, including sand, rock dump, and clays, with real-time sonar imaging of the work site and continuously variable power, and can be operated from small vessels. Applications include de-burial of pipelines and cables, seabed levelling, and debris and rock-dump removal.
