ESG: Conducting Business in the Right Way

Placing QHSSE at the core of our operations

We have a commitment to quality, health, safety, security and environmental protection.

Safety is at the core of our business, and it is supported by our robust QHSSE management systems. The central tenet governing our approach is: ‘We promote a workplace where nobody gets hurt, everyone goes home safe and the environment is preserved, amid the successful operation of our business activities.’

Good management builds good business

Management systems that are accredited to globally recognised standards are central to our everyday activities.

Operations within Unique Group are accredited to standards that include the ISO 9001 quality management system standards, ISO 14001 environmental management system standards and the ISO 45001 occupational health and safety (OH&S) system standards.

Corporate and social responsibility

Our goal is to help build a robust and sustainable world for generations to come, and we reflect our belief in sustainable living through a triple bottom-line approach: People, Planet and Profit.

Our Contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs)

We have adopted four of the United Nation’s formal Sustainable Development Goals – all of which connect directly to our business activity – to underpin our pursuit of real change:

  • Good Health and Wellbeing: we strive to create a workplace which is safe for all and promotes wellbeing and work life balance.
  • Reduced Inequalities: we take care of the community we operate in and encourage an equal and inclusive culture.
  • Responsible Consumption and Production: we embrace changes in our habits and look for ways to reduce waste throughout our supply chain and operations.
  • Climate Action: we work towards reducing our carbon footprint and increasing energy efficiency to support a greener tomorrow.

What we do at Unique Group

Environmental Stewardship

Our sustainability initiatives and environmental stewardship efforts include implementing energy conservation changes by installing motion-sensitive energy-efficient lighting and removing plastic consumables from our workplaces to ensure more responsible consumption as an organization. To reduce the carbon footprint of our operational logistics, we have added electric vehicles to our fleet, significantly cutting emissions. We are committed to incorporating recycled goods in our manufacturing supply chains, feeding into the circular economy. Our recycling initiatives reduce waste going to landfills and help cut air and water pollution. Innovating for sustainability, our Research and Development team of engineers is developing new solutions focused on reducing the carbon footprint of subsea operations. Our Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) provide carbon-conscious solutions for our customers; these efficient surveys lead to safer and greener practices due to a lack of emissions and noise, protecting our marine environment.

Corporate Governance

In 2023, we conducted over 50+ initiatives across Unique Group, reflecting our commitment to Corporate Governance. We believe in fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace environment, where the health and mental well-being of our team members are paramount. Through initiatives such as health camps, mental health awareness sessions, and well-being programs, we strive to provide resources and support systems that enable our team to thrive both personally and professionally.

Community Impact

We promote STEM initiatives across the globe and regularly support young engineers and innovators from schools to campus. Our community efforts comprise different areas of society, including environmental, educational, health, and empowerment projects. Through collaborations with nonprofit organizations, we reflect our unwavering dedication to social responsibility. In 2024, to enable the younger population in Africa, we donated to the ABN Education Trust Fund to further educational support in the region. Our team in Aberdeen collectively removed 140 Kg of litter from the Aberdeen Beach and Estuary. In the UAE, the team participated in a mangrove afforestation campaign, which is estimated to lead to a total of 8,008 kg of carbon being sequestered by the mangroves over their lifespan.

Future Goals and Commitments

At Unique Group, we are dedicated to reducing the carbon footprints of our operations and those of our customers across the industries and regions we serve. We are actively supporting the energy transition; a considerable part of our business revenue is through offshore renewable energy and environmental projects.

As a subsea equipment rental solution provider and technology developer, we support the net-zero goals of our customers by encouraging a move from the traditional ‘own and store’ model to a more sustainable, circular approach. By offering equipment on rental across all our divisions, we help decrease environmental impact through shared usage and maximise the life of assets through regular maintenance and repair.
