Summary of the Project

Unique Group successfully delivered a complete ABS-classed Air System to a key offshore customer, providing a fully integrated solution designed to support safe, reliable, and efficient offshore diving operations.

The project covered the engineering, manufacture, integration, testing, commissioning, and certification of the complete diving spread. The system was designed to support a range of offshore activities, including inspection, maintenance, repair, and subsea intervention (IMR).

The delivery demonstrates Unique Group’s ability to provide end-to-end diving solutions, combining in-house engineering and manufacturing expertise with project management, integration, and certification support.

Client Requirement

The client required a complete, class-approved air diving spread capable of supporting offshore diving operations while meeting stringent safety, performance, and regulatory requirements.

The solution needed to provide:

  • Reliable breathing air and life-support capabilities.
  • Safe diver deployment and recovery.
  • Hyperbaric accommodation and emergency recompression capability.
  • Integrated diving control, communications, CCTV, and monitoring.
  • Compliance with applicable ABS, IMCA, ASME Section VIII Division 1, PVHO-1, ATEX, and relevant DNV requirements.
  • Vessel integration, testing, commissioning , documentation and certification, support.

Challenges Faced

Delivering a fully integrated diving system required the coordination of multiple specialist systems and disciplines, from engineering and fabrication through to testing, certification, and vessel integration.

Key challenges included:

Complex system integration: Combining diving control, life-support, high-pressure air, chamber, LARS, communications, and emergency systems into one operational spread.

Stringent certification requirements: Ensuring the complete system met applicable classification and industry standards and supporting the approval process with ABS.

Operational safety: Incorporating redundancy and emergency capabilities to ensure diver safety and system reliability during offshore operations.

Vessel integration: Providing the engineering documentation and technical support required for successful installation and certification onboard the vessel.

Unique Solution Delivered

Unique Group engineered and manufactured a complete ABS-classed Air Diving Spread, incorporating a range of integrated systems to provide a robust and reliable offshore diving solution.

The system included:

    • Dive Control Container (DCC) with a three-man air diving control panel, supervisory systems, integrated CCTV, and communications.

    • ABS-classed Hyperbaric Chamber providing accommodation and treatment capability for up to three divers.
    • Standby Chamber Container incorporating an additional chamber and high-pressure air storage to provide emergency and operational redundancy.
    • Machinery Container housing three high-pressure air compressors and a 48 x 50-litre high-pressure air storage bank for a continuous breathing air supply.

In addition to equipment supply, Unique Group provided vessel integration engineering, documentation, testing, certification support, and liaison with ABS, supporting the customer through the approval process and enabling the system to achieve operational readiness.
